Ronnie James Dio found himself with closer ties to Ritchie Blackmore as the band Elf was essentially transformed into what would become Rainbow. The name came from the Rainbow Bar and Grill located in Los Angeles, where Ronnie and Ritchie used to spend some of their free time.
Initially forged under the moniker Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, for better recognition in the industry, the band moved from the East Coast of the United States to the California West Coast.
Tour after tour ensued between studio work and the band experienced a number of line up changes before pressures eventually prompted the members into moving on to other things.
